Literacy with ICT project
Southwest Horizon School Division
This is a test
Are you interested in developing a collaborative, digital project for your students? Several years ago we attempted an online project using WebCT as the delivery system. I would like to attempt a similar project incorporating Moodle as our course management system, ePearl as a way to share our work and provide valuable feedback to our peers and Bridgit or Skype for asynchronous communication. There are many free online tools that allow students to create material and publish it on class wikis or blogs. Could we develop a plan and make a few practise runs this spring, hoping to be ready to proceed with a fully designed plan for fall 2008.
Possible Topics:
21st Century World
A Flat World
Daniel Pink
Implications of a Digital World
Novel Study
Historic or Geographic Areas of Interest from their part of the division
Research Louis Riel
Flat Stanley style project between schools
Digital Citizenship
Digital citizenship can be described as the norms of appropriate, responsible behaviour with regard to technology use. As a way of understanding the complexity of digital citizenship and the issues of technology use, abuse, and misuse, these elements have been identified that together make up digital citizenship.
Digital Access - full electronic participation in society
Digital Commerce - the buying and selling of goods online
Digital Literacy - the capability to use digital technology and knowing when and how to use it
Digital Etiquette - the standards of conduct expected by other digital technology users
Digital Law - the legal rights and restrictions governing freedoms extended to all digital technology users, and the behavioural expectations that come with them
Digital Rights and Responsibilities - the privileges and freedoms extended to all digital technology users, and the behavioural expectations that come with them
Digital Health and Wellness - the elements of physical and psychological well-being related to digital technology use
Digital Security - the precautions that all technology users must take to guarantee their personal safety and the security of their network
Available tools:
ePearl - collaboration by providing feedback on peer work
Moodle - forums - students can post their answers, thoughts about a topic, vote on an issue and also comment on other people's ideas.
Online applications that can be accessed from home or the computer lab
Brigit to communicate - texting, audio, camera
Skype to communicate
Structure and Assessment based on:
Critical Thinking - Plan and Question, Gather and Make Sense
Creative Thinking - Produce to Show Understanding, Communicate, Reflect
Demonstrating Ethics and Responsibility - Affective Domain
